Anyone know what this white stuff is on my Juniper?

Its been at the base of the trunk for while.

It seems like its spreading up the trunk and there is almost a clear distinction on the trunk where it is and isn't.

There are other small bits of it elsewhere on the tree.

The tree "seems" healthy otherwise. A few brown needles here and there but nothing major.... Fungus?
Thanks in advance! Reece.

Hi mate,
Looks like it could be a fungus - not a professional opinion on that though.
I once used a particular granular slow release which I mixed in with the soil - it caused a very similar deposit on the trunk of my tree's but not sure if it ever made it up the base and onto branches.
Good luck! Hope it's nothing serious

G'day Reece
Could just be a lichen but looks a bit like it could be a salts deposit from being a bit wet. Some ferts and soils can contribute to it but it is mostly from watering a little to regularly and often from not giving it enough water to flush through properly. Water can just sita little too long and the evaporation leaves a salty deposit usually at the base and other areas that don't see the sun as much. The bit up the tree are underneath the trunk and branch where the sun would not reach. You can scrap it off or brush off and if it is from the watering just give a little more when you water and make sure the tree is nice and surface dry before watering again. As the weather cools this can be the problem as we are used to summer watering.
Keep an eye on it.
Tony

Ok thanks guys.... I might try letting it dry out more and using a bit of fungicide ....
