Hi guys
well it been a month since I dug out a nice Ash tree and I thought Id start a new thread to keep updating.
This was dug on the 8th of Feb .

As you can see it was a nasty dig and I managed to remove most of the root system in my efforts :palm: (being my first effort We'll let that one slip  ).
After trimming back some of the foliage, 2 weeks later the rest started falling off by its self and I thought that was it, ive killed it.

But with a fools hope I left it to do its thing, all the while feeding it seasol every 2 days and watching it with anticipation.
About a week ago I was having my morning coffee and checking for signs of life and low and behold, i noticed a little bud forming on the end of one of
the remaning twigs. Not to get to far ahead of myself I put it down to stored energy. But day by day more started to appear.

So after being away for 2 days I come home to find these little beauties creeping out and I think it may be fair to say.....Yaaaahoooo. :tu: :tu: :tu:

But I dont want to count my chickens before they hatch.
Please feel free to comment about anything.

Always a good feeling to see those buds promising a future for this tree. For now I’d let the tree settle in, keep giving it tender loving care and let it make new feeder roots along with those shoots above ground.

Longer term, maybe as early as late winter so that the wound would start to heal quickly, I’d chop that tall, thick branch down as low as possible. (For me it is too thick to blend in with the other branches on this trunk in the long term). That would give the tree the opportunity to put all of its spring growth into material that you could work with. :2c:

For now, enjoy the bud growth, and contemplating the trees possibilities over a cuppa,

Jan.

Thanks Jan
I actually plan to air layer the top half and use the 3 spikes at the top as jins.
Hopefully with some branch growth the trunk will fatten up as well.
