Here's a form study from a local Eucalypt - I'm not sure how you achieve these shapes in bonsai, but we'll see. Lots of dead branches through the mass of foliage.

And a close-up. Very dynamic and powerful.

And some raindrops. Lots of eucalyptus oil on the surface of these leaves! The stem colour is very rich.

Very nice tree, I would love to see a bonsai like this. Thanks for sharing! Very helpful to those of us tinkering with Aussie trees in other parts of the world.

I love the forms that some of the eucs take, they can be so beautiful. My goal (or I should say my dream) in bonsai is to be able to create these native looks on a native bonsai. Maybe in a decade or two I'll get there
Thanks for the post

Hi Gavin, I took a pic of a similar tree a while back. I find many like this near West Wyalong, not just Gums either, where was this one taken?
I will see if I can find my pictures.

Brett, it was just by the road in Phillip, a Canberra suburb. Lots of wasted space around here, I think we should have flocks of sheep and roaming drovers...
I've seen old Casuarinas and Callitris with this kind of complex branching.
