Full sun?

Hi all,
I would like to ask a simple question - which species stand up to 'full sun' in our Australian summer :?: I mean, which plants thrive, not just survive in sun through most if not all, of the day? Assuming water is adequate and temps are not too extreme (<40 degrees C).
I can start the list with ficus, banksia and bouganvillea.
Cheers,
Pasquale

Most of my Tea tree varities and Eucalypts seem to thrive and put out new growth in full sun.

Olives, Cedar, Pine and probably plenty more. In Sydney, you could add most Junipers to the list. In Melbourne you can grow most trees well in full sun if you have the time to be there whenever watering is required and can minimise wind exposure.

Cheers,
Mojo

Agreed, wind is the killer and can dry out a tree very quickly. If you keep the water up to them they will thrive in full sun. Most of my trees live in full sun and one watering a day. Two if it is going to be a scorcher.

all my ficus and trees love full sun, even the maples. What the maples do not like is really hot dry winds.... scorched earth for the leaves. The really hot day last week took a heavy toll, however it was not the hot sun so much as that blistering hot wind.

My vote goes to Japanese Black Pine, Shimpaku and Olives. They all really motor in full sun!

Tridents love the sun too, buta re not as delicate as Acer Palmatum, so don't suffer as much from the wind burn.

As many of mine as possible are also kept in full sun. The Japanese maples and English elms had to be moved under shadecloth after the 3rd + 40c day but Chinese elms, trident maples, zelkova, shimpaku, pines, and most natives are all still in full sun with morning and evening watering. The callistemon has lots of new shoots growing rapidly even through those hot days.
Chinese elm, trident and zelkova will put on more growth with a little shade but stay more compact in full sun.

Thanks for the replies. My figs, banksias and bougies have really been enjoying this summer, 'bring it on' they seem to be saying. The callistemons and mels have said 'bring it on, but keep the drinks coming' while the j.squamata, gingko and some other Northern hemisphere friends seem to be saying 'I'll take my drink and have a bit of a rest in the shade, if you don't mind old chap' (my non-natives are very polite).
