Hey guys, I've had this Swamp Cypress for about a month now and i'm a bit unsure on the next steps... I like the lower trunk and first branch but the straight section with no taper above it bugs me.. Maybe i should reduce the height to the middle of the straight section with a diagonal cut and wait for a shoot to become the new leader?....... OR Chop at the first branch and make that the new leader?..... OR.... ?
Id love some ideas and advice!
Thanks
CK

I find you are better off chopping and then waiting for new shoots near the top. You will get quite a few growing upright - just pick the best one and remove the rest and then do your angle cut. For best results put in on a wet bed or saucer or water and feed like mad with DL. You need to keep an eye on the roots and they tend to go downwards with some horrible angles on the - never out radially. Every repot you should do root work.
