Hi All
I managed to secure some nice stock idea's welcome

I defoliated the smallest one and trimmed it back a bit to see how it would react .
I don't have much experince with these ... last 2 i think i killed .
I think it maybe time to join a club or some workshops as i'm starting to get a few trees now.

Hi Meagi , Zelkova - Japanese Grey Bark Elms can sulk after defoliation and also after layering off a trunk . Just keep them in a sheltered position and don't over water them . Nice little trunks there .

When you say don't over water .... So I should let
Pots dry out ?
All my other trees stay moist 90% of the time

Hi Meagi , No definitely don't let them dry out , moist but not wet /saturated . I defoilated that big one of mine it actually grew new shoots/branches on the outer area's which were cut back , i have just cut back these new growths 8-10 leaves yesterday to 1-2 leaves and its just beginning to leaf out in the area's of the inner canopy which was defoliated all at the same time . I have noticed with these Elms they react differently to things like Maples and other elms , English and European when defoliated , you think they are close to death then they take off , whereas the other elms simply begin to leaf out all over .

The first season i took those layers off the triple layered tree 1 never leafed out for the entire season yet remained green , can't remember which layer was which now possibly the middle section that gave me the issue because i recall setting a layer on a layered trunk in its first season severed . I know i moved it and watered it less because of the lack of foliage , you would have seen both of them on your visit , both growing on well .
