I took a pic of this to show a mate so thought I may as well share it here. This large leaf privet was dug about 4yrs ago & sat ignored on my bench until a few months ago when I finally gave it its first repot, prune & tried to start finding some direction. Its just been defoliated & is now heading back to the bench for another round of ignoring.. Currently standing 9cm tall it is actually starting to show some promise, maybe with another 4yrs it might be getting somewhere half decent.

Could you post up some side photos and rear? I really like the trunk line on this little guy. I think it's going to be great in a year or two.

Being large leaf privet instead of the more usually used small leaf form it will take more than a few years to fill out the leader & branching without the internode length, branch & leaf size blowing out of proportion... Matt

I am experimenting with some small leaved privet at the moment. Not trying to achieve anything, just seeing what the growth patterns are and how far they can be pushed before they say no more. They are still very young at only 1 year old, but one is doing a complete loop and another is doing a big zig zag while another is just growing straight up.

Will be watching this trees progress intently though. I really like it.

Matt that 'zig zag' one is going to be a cracker in time. Can imagine it with developed structure and root spread... Will watch this with interest!

Jason, there isnt much a privet wont take & just keep coming back for more. If you can find some bigger bits to dig they are fantastic for quick results, something beginners & experienced alike are partial too from time to time.

Matlea, all the pics are the same tree just different sides. I am not normally a fan of zigzaggy trees but the base of this was interesting enough to try & do something with but will be strenously avoiding repeating the zigs & zags further up...

Matt, unfortunately at the moment I have no knowledge of where i would be able to dig any. Most people I know love there gardens and want to keep them for their own selfish pleasure! lol. I am how ever letting them all know that I am ready and waiting, shovel in hand. if anyone in the blue mountains wants some trees removed let me know

When I saw the first pic I was expecting there to be scarrs at the rear from trunk chops. But that is not the case from looking at the other pics...Sweet!

Thanks Dario, the only chop is the original one from collection, not sure how I will deal with it but no rush
