Hi All

Just a quick question, regarding snapped/cracked trees,

- If the limb/rest of trunk survives, onwards from the crack/snapped section, will the bark reform itself and repair from where it has broken?

I keep thinking that when i take the wire off the support will be gone and the crack would give, whats everyone's experience on this?

P.S it's taken me a while to post some of my excess trees/pots for sale, will hopefully get to it soon.

It will always be weak in that area - most times I leave the wire on much longer than normal. At the time of the break you can use superglue to rejoin the heartwood

Great Idea thank you very much, i figured that the wired would be left on much longer so that it would recover but never thought of artificially strenthing it with super glue, thanks again.

On the face of it, looks like you just overstretched the bark. Im not sure if the bud is a good idea, on one hand it will thicken the area there and that would add mass = strength. But then it also creates a junction, which would be weaker than a straight trunk. Perhaps one of the experts could elaborate on this issue!

From what I can see of it in your pic it doesnt look too bad, as long as growth is still good up top I would just let time do its thing. A year or 2 of good growth in a bigger pot will speed the process considerably.

Superglue is great for strengthening a trunk or branch thats been cracked, I have done so successfully a few times. Be careful to keep the glue off live wood.
