Yesterday I bought 2 more elms a Chinese and a seiju elm
I would like to freshen up the soil and have a look at the roots I think it's been awhile since anything has been done as leaves are very tiny .

Seiju elms have naturally tiny leaves, so don't be concerned that this is a sign of the tree being in poor health. Any checking or prodding around this late in the season is a no no. Feed, water and trim to your hearts content, but wait until early next spring to re-pot, and then look at whats going on beneath the soil..

Meagi, How big is that first tree? Those tiny leaves look very much like 'Hokkaido' elm ('Nire Keyaki'). If so it is a true dwarf. Full grown at about 60 cm tall! It does develop quite corky bark but has extremely brittle branches that break with even the smallest touch.
Soil mix looks ok from here so I would just try feeding them to improve health and vigour at the moment and repot next winter.

Yes very brittle branches almost dry dead looking
If I'm right the tree you say it might be is very rare
I also got a second seiju from same place but different leave type they were bigger on 2 nd seiju
