My Chinese Quince was defoliated (partially) and wired this week a slow progression but there are definite improvements

Looking good Gerard. If i might suggest one thing i would let the lower branches grow out a fair bit to thichen them up. At the moment they look a little thin for my eyes. Appart fromt that i think you are on a good track! I am kicking myself that i didnt buy this one myself.
Did you get flowers this spring? I had one on mine. Hopefully next year i will get a full flush of blooms.

No flowers this year,
I have taken a new approach by defoliating later in the season and leaving lots of the interior leaves in the hope of developing better ramification.
I am usure about the first branch, perhaps it is a bit too low. I will let the first two branches extend.

Hi Gerard, i think the first two left hand branches are to low. As they put size on they will detract from the right hand branch/second trunk? which is an integral part of the tree. I guess they could be left on to help thicken the trunk more but it already has good size. You could let the second one really extend and use it for a graft on the top right hand where it needs a branch. Just my

Beautiful trunk line and taper.
The bark looks great as well..
Really want to get my hands on one of these...
