I would like some advice from some of you more experienced guys out there on this fig (thanks in advance)
As you can see from the picture I have defoliated the tree so work out what branches to keep and wire then ran out of ideas, as the two lower branches are opposite one another (bar branches) my questions are do you style figs like traditional trees left, right, front, back etc or do you style them in a more upright natural or broom style.
Have posted a picture of the tree for any styling advice please as I have only limited experience in the art of bonsai.

Styling can be done in the traditional sense as you have pointed out or as a more natural banyan style... Plenty of examples on this forum or the web. In any case the bar branch is a problem - reverse taper- so I would tend to delete one of the branches and it looks like you have enough to play with to get an alternate branch structure happening. Maybe keep the left branch in the case of your chosen front / as photographed. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will have other great words of advice.

You would get good results and better base flare in the long run if you ground layer the tree at the widest point in the trunk.

cheers

Thanks for that Ashley,do you mean by a ground layer an air layer just below the first two branches where the reverse taper is. :?: :lost:

Hi Reddog
I agree with Chris. I'd delete that left branch and then wire the others down and bend. Good luck with it.
Woof!
