have acquired this Fuschia yesterday (check photo description for how) and I am wondering whether I can cut it down more or let it go as is for a while before doing that?

I'm not familiar with the type of tree.
IF it had a lot of roots and was it's own separate bush (your image description is not 100% clear).
Then personally I would just let it get a bit of life back and ensure it has taken.
In my opinion if ever undecided about what to do and it's not desperate that something be done....
Leave it until your more sure of a plan..
Whats a few more days/weeks in the scheme of Bonsai?
It's not a race....

yeah the roots aren't great but it was completely separated from the original plant, may as well leave it as you say "its no race", thanks for the help, I still have allot to learn so I need all the advise I can get

Know nothing of Fushia, so take with agrain of salt.
When i collect I leave them as big as I can until it has started to recover and I can see where it is heading. Then I will cut back harder as needed.
