Japan Video: Repotting a shohin Zelkova broom

Hi all,
With the help of one of my club members, I just found an informative video on YouTube that I want to share.
Despite being unable to understand Japanese audio, worth noting is the growers careful removal of old soil, selective removal of downward growing roots, use of a coarse drainage layer and small soil (Akadama) particle size for the main soil.
What the tree in this video reinforced to me is that you don't necessarily need to have a massive trunk that is v cut to make a great broom that any of us would love to own.

Nice find Mojo, There are a number of videos from the same user that also look like they will be good.
Here is a small one i saw in japan with some fingers (not mine

) for scale.

They would be quite easy to grow i think if you were willing to put in the time.

Hi Joe, I have seen that tree before somewhere I think and it is just a wonderful little tree too. I agree that quality shohin like this are attainable in our lifetime here in Australia with the design ability and technique that many bonsai practitioners here already have (or can learn from the vast reference materials that are available).
Cheers,
Mojo

Mojo,
I saw a heap when i was in Japan last. There must have been a grower and or growers producing a fair amount of them. Really nice all the same.
i imagine a airlayered start and then a chop and you could have something similar in a handful of years.

Which I think became this a little later on:

Ok, love the tree, but what about if the canopy was wider and the tree was in a shallower pot?
Keyaki broom shohin streched.jpg
Ok, now I'm just getting carried away

.
Cheers,
Mojo
