Thanks gerard, much appreciated. There are some really nice trees there...

Love the Pyracantha, and the little pines. WOW, I guess that is why we grow Azalea!

Ok....being new to the game...

Why does an exhibitor put a little plant of some description next to the tree that they are showing?

Bebbas, Those are 'accent plants' The idea is to enhance the overall picture by using a colour, shape or species that compliments the bonsai.
In Japanese formal display they often use 3 elements in the display - bonsai, scroll and accent plant/rock where all 3 are aimed at telling more of a story - location, time of year, weather conditions, etc.

I also thought that the circular display of mini trees was quite special. Some of them over 30 years old I believe.
Congratulations to the owner (who is an Ausbonsai "LURKER")

No. 6 pine was very graceful, and the jack pine made having the trunk completely on one side of the tree seem perfectly natural - beautifully styled.

Thanks for posting.
