HI all.

This is my little cedrus ( atlantica?) that I aquired as a 6 inch pot from a general nursery a few years back. I am frightened as hell about repotting it. The most I have done is gone from a 6 to an 8 with it and I barely touched the roots. Any advice on repotting would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sqizzy,
January repotting when the tree is growing hard works well for me, I have been repotting my Cedars at that time for the last few years on the advice of craigw60 and it works well. Previously I was a budbreak kind of guy with Cedars and had mixed results. Be cautious about taking too much of the root mass off in one go and save a good portion of the old soil to add to the new mix, as you would (or should) with Pines. Also be sensible about location for the first month after repotting, dappled shade not too windy or exposed to day long full-sun unless you are there to monitor the tree closely. Regarding the new mix, a free draining mix free of fine material with particle size of primarily 3-7mm is what you should be looking for.

Cheers,
Mojo
