Giant Ficus natalensis

Hi all,

I picked up this humongous Natal Fig while at a nursery up north of me yesterday. It stands over 3 feet tall with a 7 inch base, and it is full of aerial roots. I don't have many decent pictures of it, as it's pretty much a giant bush, full of leaves and branches. It's too big for any of my indoor setups currently, so I need to build it its own box. Thought I'd share with you all and gather opinions and all that.

Big Stump! :o Nice
How do nurseries there keep these sort of trees thru winter? do they have grow setup like yours? or just keep them in a poly tunnel?

Thanks everyone!

I've never seen a natalensis with a trunk this large either. Hopefully I can keep it happy. As to how they grow them over the winters, they have big greenhouses that have heaters that keep them nice and warm and humid all throughout winter.

Dude.......... :o :o :o

When its convenient I'd be repotting into something that'll train the roots laterally, that thing is a beast.

I've actually been considering selling this guy. It's just SO BIG and I have no idea where to take it style-wise. I'm lost :lost:

However, I have built a box for it to grow in for now. It's two boxes on top of each other so that I can open the box without the need of a door.

That is awesome FG

Sell it :o No way man. Might be big, but what a cracker. I would remove the lower branches to focus more on the trunk mate. Keep it as a high canopy like a Giant rainforest Fig. Same height, a little more width and work on getting some nice layers to the foliage. Enough character in that trunk it almost looks like a very mature Strangler Fig.
