Just thought I would post a little experiment of my feeble attempt at grafting a Yatsuba onto straight black pine seedling. I have no idea if it is even the right time of the year but my theory was to get it in place before the buds started to push. I will keep you all updated but I am happy to hear any thoughts or knowledge.

I have found that if you cut the needles back by about half, it cuts down on transpiration in the scion. I also have found that it is more successful if the stock plant is in full, vigorous growth, as it heals the wound around the graft faster. You can also cover the graft with a clear plastic for a couple of weeks to keep it from dehydrating. Keep it out of hot sun though.
