Hi Antonio,

Good job on the Crepe Myrtle; I have always wanted one. How did you develop the root flare/nebari because it looks quite good. :tu:

Cheers,

Brad75.

Hi Antonio

I am also impressed how you have turned a stick into the making of a lovely bonsai.

What month did you do the chop and was there are problem with the regrowth. I wasn't sure if crepe myrtles back shoot on bare wood.

Thanks
Fiona :tu:

Hi brad , the same as you get any other nebari flare ! Diligently aggressive, profecient pruning and styling. You cut these back hard and they are more than happy to put out. Then it helps if you let the tree run, which is exactly what you do when you're building trunks. The seamless taper makes the flare !!! :tu:

Hi Fiona thankyou, Consectutive trunk chops, wiring and styling is how you do it. Yes they will shoot on bare wood if their is nothing else above to pop as long as you give them room to die back. They are extremely tough. I like to trunk chop all deciduous as soon as leaves have fallen. Some like to chop and repot as soon as flowering is done. :tu:

Hi, is there any problem with suckers shooting from the roots? I know if you disturb the ground around a crepe myrtle growing in the garden it will sucker all around. Thanks.

wow that's a great transformation!! thank you for sharing

So am I right in thinking you made the first chop in 2008 to just the bare trunk, then let it shoot before you again made the chop some time later to a point where you were happy with the height and made that branch the leader?

If so, how long in between did you wait until the branches hardened and the second chop to achieve the short trunk?
