Hi everybody
I found this JBP in local nursery in bonsai section
looks like somebody tried to make a bonsai with this tree but they changed their mind and put it back to plastic pot.
Tree is not healthy. I was going to put another plastic pot with better soil mix but I changed my mind too.
I only paid $ 40 but I will try to save this tree.

Hi xsalvadorx , for $40 its a nice trunk . i would remove the twisted hold down wire on the left side of the apex and make that the new leader to keep the movement flowing in the zig zag as in the lower trunk . The thicker 3rd branch on the right could be removed later as its out of proportion to the rest , pinch out all the tips in the upper section only and try to get some back budding happening over the next growing season. A bigger pot would give it more chance of some serious growth over 1-2 seasons and possibly produce the back budding required . That hold down wire will tighten on the trunk base and restrict the nutrient flow somewhat and basically work as a tourniquet . Food for thought , all the best .

Just another option.
3rd, 4th and 5th pic, tilt tree more to the right (45 deg angle) and remove both bottom branches, drop remaining right hand branch lower and develoe top as a low,tight triangular apex with the emphasis on the dropped branch as the bulkier part of the tree. A virt would be good if I knew how to do them.

Thank you guys Im planing to make some changes but Im not sure about health of tree Im going to wait until summer and will do all changes next season.

Do you advise any fertilizer for pine ?

After reading your posts above about the tree being unhealthy and not healthy -

The description on eBay seems alittle inconsistent....
"Very good plant, in really good condition"


If my observation is wrong I apologise.
My concern is for the quality of bonsai available for people to purchase in Australia.

$450 for this at a Bonsai nursery!

Fair enough tex, I would like to know what I'm buying and trust the description. I think $450 would get you some more advanced material also.

Did you just repot the tree? If so shouldn't you wait until the tree has established at least before you try to sell it!! For a pine I'd be waiting till the tree exhibits signs of new growth and even then waiting till it hardens off and it has had a first prune. Your not really setting the new owner up for success, especially if they're not a bonsaiier themselves.

Besides that you should cut the tree down to the 2nd branch (leave a long stub), which also happens to have the back branch as a bar branch anyway. Bring either up as the new leader to develop taper and maybe jin the trunk stub and grow it on for a few years. The tree needs growing. This info is for the new owner!

So you have it in the plastic pot right?

Definitely just let it grow for a bit through spring to get the health back. You will need to control the top though to get strength in the lower branches as well. Liquid feed to start with almost anything organic. Powerfeed and Charlie Carp are good, but anything similar. Mid to late spring chuck on the Dynamic Lifter or similar, just on the surface, and that will kick it along nicely. Pines love food.

$450 in a Bonsai Nursery. Tell 'em their dreamin'.

I bought this tree couple of months ago. and I re potted that time. I was planing to keep than I changed my plan that's it
tree is alive there is nothing wrong my only concern was get more branches but as I said before I'm planing to sell it to get something else.
I found one material and they are asking for that $500 so I have to sell this tree and some of my trees.

I think you need to fix your eBay listing, this is nowhere near a $450 tree, that is misleading and untrue.

And real estate agents are supposed to be bad!
