Yesterday Today Tomorrow (I think)

Hi all,
I came across this tree in winter 2011,when i was driving down a back street in West End Brisbane. I noticed an old man struggling to dig it out of his front garden. I thought why not so I pulled over and offered to remove it for him, if i could keep it. He gave me a weird look and said OK...... if you really want to. With 4 swings of his mattock (he'd done most of the work for me :tu: ) I had it in the back of my ute.It stood about 2 meters tall so I cut it back leaving no foliage. It didn't put any growth out for what seemed ages, maybe 2 months. Since then I've been letting it grow for 2 or 3 months between pruning's at which stage i trim new growth back to 2 leaves. I'm planning on growing a wide spreading canopy with the outline of the canopy bean a bit wider then the rim of the training pot it's in at the moment. I also plan to carve the dead wood down low. Not sure what shape I'll carve yet, I'll cross that bridge when i get there.
I don't know much about yesterday today tomorrows, if anyone does I'd love some advise on how they react to root pruning tolerance and timing. It's quite large aprox. 900 mm high (note the shears for scale in the 1st photo.

Cheers,
Sam

By the way i'm not entirely sure if it is a yesterday today tomorrow, so if any one can confirm what species it is that would be great,

Cheers,
Sam

It does look like Brunfeldsia (Y,T,and T) but with such a simple non-compound leaf it's a bit hard to tell. :lost: The leaves also look a bit chlorotic and need a little nitrogen or trace elements. :imo:

Couple of pics of a Brunfelsia latifolia (Sweet Petite) in the garden for comparison.

I now have visions of digging this one up

Hi Hackimoto,
I haven't fed it since late summer, so i'll give it a good drink of some worm juice for a while and see what happens.

Cheers,
Sam

I noticed buds were swelling all over today so I potted it up in it's first bonsai / training pot. Seems a bit early to pot up but after advise from a previous post I thought I'd see how it reacts.

I'm a bit nervous about its recovery. Don't know much about these as far as re pot times and how well they react to root pruning. Time will tell I guise. :fc:
