I posted this tree on BT a while ago, and it is a very difficult tree with a great many challenges. I have a slight idea in mind, but I am open to suggestions. Tell me what you all think, what's possible and anything on care ect.

Can you post some additional pictures please? First, cut the rim off the polly box and remove some of the growth around the trunk. This will give us a better view.

Those first branches will be the ones used, I dont exactly want to cut it off...

I didn't mean to cut off any branches, just remove some of the foliage in around the trunk so we can see where all those branches come from.

Then take the picture from a little lower down, from the correct viewing angle.

I can cut the foam no worries I was thinking about repotting it this spring.
I dont know much about needle plucking these, maybe Grant might have some helpful tips. I will push the camera in though so the branches can be seen more clearly. If I can find the original suggestion virt I will post it up.

weren't you E workshopping this tree with hans van meer? why the change now?

Ben I don't think needle plucking is a feature on cedar. The lower branches are no big deal here, lets see the guts.

Needle plucking is not necessary at this early stage when we are just having a look at the tree. Just cut the box and get a better photo angle.

Plucking is a useful grooming technique, removing long or damaged needles from last years growth and/or when wiring intensively.

I have half plucked my progression series cedar and I hope to have half a free day this weekend so I will try and finish it and post the result.

Ill a little later today and give it a bash. I think the original design by Hans Van Meer is on an old harddrive.

I took a few pictures of the branch area as requested, but I think Ill need to do a little 360 take so you can see exactly where they come from.

Those roots are either really bad or really interesting. If you can give me a shot from 180 degrees to your front I would be grateful.I have an inkling(a small ink of course) that I will like the current back of the tree.

The root portion growing towards the left, over the laying down trunk can probably be removed no matter which side is the front.

Ill up date this for you and pray I can find that Idea from Hans. He did recommend that front root be removed slowly, which I believe I understand the method to do.
He had the design small, working to the first branching and using that.

It does need a repot, probably back into a foam box unless Leigh doesnt mind a need reason for my to bug him about a mica training pot. Soil I was thinking sieved potting mulch with sand and zeolite.

The last photo you have posted shows the view from above and shows the curving of the base that is flat on the ground. From your front it is curving away from the viewers point of view rather than towards the viewer.That is why I think the front will be what is currently your back.

I would still like to see a shot from ground level but 180 degrees to your current front. In other words show me the back of the tree from ground level if you can.

Lots of branches to work with so I am sure we can design something worthwhile here.

Removing the root in question should not be a problem as it is only a minor percentage of the root system
