I was just wondering, for those of you who carve, what is the toughest wood of any species you have come across? I have actually found Buxus wood to be the hardect I have come across.

Not a silly answer Scott as the hardest wood I find to carve is the old dry wood. But use nice sharp tools and it is all soft

I just did a big carve as a demo on a Hawthorn on Saturday and found it quite easy enough. If you have sharp, good tools it should be OK.
