I found it inspiring:

Still early days. Trimmed it, wrapped it and buried it again.

Not Angkor Wat, but Ayuthaya in Thailand, where there is a famous buddha head wrapped in roots.

ha... yeah I've seen that one too, but Angkor Wat takes the cake for root wrapped statues trust me. ;)

Looking fantastic, what a good idea! We all want to see it after another year's growth.

Thanks guys, will show after another year.

Rintar, I actually bought this statue in Cambodia about 7 years ago, I hope it doesn't fall apart on me! :o We'll see. I don't know where you can get them here but I'm sure you could somewhere.

Cheers

Yeah I've been to the temples of Ankgor...Hate to be a stickler, but you mean Ta Phrom right? That's the temple with all the root-over-rock trees, not Angkor Wat. But yeah, it blew my mind. That's some cool inspiration you took away from it, looking forward to seeing more pics

Yes I mean Ta Phrom. If I'd said Ta Phrom though, I'm sure fewer people would have known what I was talking about hence referring to Angkor Wat, the most famous of the temples.

If you wanna be more of a stickler, Ta Phrom, from my memory, doesn't have statues like the one I used... so there...

Hey TeeJay love what you are attempting here, think it will look great. I have been thinking about doing a similar thing with a Buddha sculpture myself. Even if the sculpture breaks apart it will look more like the broken up temples that inspired you.

I was over in Cambodia in January - the temples with overgrown trees just blew me away :o the whole area did actually, but especially where nature had taken over. I really appreciate that whilst they have restored many of the temples they have maintained some in their reclaimed vegetative states.

See pics below

I've been to Angkor Wat. It sure is amazing. Ficus are my favorite species for bonsai so Siem Reip was full of inspirational trees. I'd love to return to Cambodia someday.

This tree today. There's been some ups and downs but a few more years and I hope it's looking good
