Needa a bit of work I think!
The lower right branch and its straggly bits going everywhere I think needs to go completely. The top needs to be trimmed back and given some definition. The same applies to all the other foliage pads in order to give them a consistent shape and style, and in the process to define the negative space between them.
Then I would look at the tree with view to see what it needs then.
At the next repot, i would lower it somewhat too as I do not realy like the exposed roots much, but that is personal taste rather than faults with the tree

the bottom right branch either needs to be grown out or chopped off. The lower branches seem to be bigger than the higher branches and this needs to be remedied. the foliage pads need to be refined and space needs to be created between branches. a new pot and change of angle (as suggested by aaron), and possibly pot position may also be a good idea. i would also think about thread grafting roots to improve nebari.
just my 2c

i think this tree has potential to be very nice. but before we can get to that lets look at its flaws.
its major flaw is its long boring dominant trunk and the poor branching on both trunks. the tree is also potted to high.
the trees strong points are its nice basal flair and its weel proportioned dominant and sub trunk which both have nice taper and flow well.
so in order to accentuate the strong points of the tree and remove the flaws we need to do a drastic redesign.
choping both trunks and rebuilding a new branch structure from the stumps. being an elm this will not take more then 3 - 4 growing seasons to get nice branching back in place the tree then may also be potted lower so as to make the nebari more apealing and natural. then a slightly smaller pot.

Hey Guys,
Nice tree! If it were mine, I would cut all the long stringy bits with long internodes right back to the parent branch. Then I would trim all the exsisting parts of the folage back to 2 leaves each.
Personally I think the bottom right hand branch can stay for now, just needs some TLC.
To inspire further growth, at Christmas I would defoliate the whole tree.
Just the thoughts of a novice.
Thanks,
Mac
