Today I traveled down to the local Bonsai nursery in Reservior (not that local but the closest there is) and picked up a four year old blue juniper and a tiny baby cedar, I was planning on growing a fig from a cutting, but 1. i dont know how to get cuttings and 2. I got a fig 'mallsai' from a friend last night. I know the survival rates for mallsai arnt good but if a get all the glued down stuff off it, is there anything else i can do to help keep it alive other than extra TLC?

Besides reviving dying fig trees, the other thing thats been troubling me is that ive heard your ment to plan out how you want your bonsai to look in the future, but because i dont fully understand wiring and pruning im abit confused by this, i bought a 'bonsai basics' book which i have been tearing though but if someone could make it abit more clear to me that be much appriciated. anyway i think the main reason for this post was to show off the new plants, but i cant upload photos for some reason, which saddens me greatly because i was looking forward to showing them off

To help your fig more I would re-pot in a bigger pot with better soil to grow on to get some vigour into it, find a direction for it in the near future then plant in bonsai pot.

generally the most common style is the informal upright so have a look here for trees the same type as yours. Pay particuler attention to the branch placement and foliage shapes.
Post a pic of you tree and see what someone else sees in it for shapes and styles

Hi LP this might help with posting your pics viewtopic.php?f=97&t=54 and maybe this viewtopic.php?f=97&t=161 then you can show off your new trees. Next have a look at some YouTube Graham Potter vids heaps of others out there too! Read up there's heaps of info archived on this site alone, and graduate to a bigger book of bonsai to help you more understand basic techniques. Next PRACTICE consign these new trees as ones to practice wiring and trimming on. Also read up on seasonal advise for your selected species ... there you go just a few tips most importantly don't get overwhelmed - take it at your pace there's lots to learn but it's all good fun!
