Paper Bark's Arial Roots ??????????????

Are they what I think they are??? This tree is huge and must be over 60 years old as I was told.

Very charismatic aren't they? Up here in the tropical north of the land-down-south big Melaleuca often have aerial roots. I even get aerial roots on my Mel bonsai! I have seen them in many species but most common in Melaleuca leucodendra.
