Hi guys, firstly I'd like to say what a great site this is the info on here is priceless
Ok now moving on.... I started getting into the addictive hobby of bonsai about 6 years ago when I received a juni as a present which was purchased at our local bonsai store here in Adelaide. I slowly started to build up a nice little collection of 10 or so trees over the course of a year... Then one summer i went away on holidays and kindly asked my sister to look after them while i was gone.....long story short........ when i returned home most were dead or dying a painful death

5 years have passed and now I have decided to get back into this great little hobby, so i went to bunnings and purchased a little chinensis juniper 'Pyramidalas', purely as an experiment, that and I've found it very difficult to find any juni stock trees or pre bonsai juni's (procumbens are by far my favorite juniper) anywhere. Not even the local bonsai nursery has any for sale, they do sell them of course but they are pre styled which really isn't what i want at the moment.
So i thought I would share some pics with you all and get some opinions on how to style it, most importantly what branches you think i should cut off. Ive left most of the branches on and wired them only removing the spindly ones and Ive also cut off the upwards and downwards growing shoots to get my basic shape. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Also noticed that it is looking a little unhealthy (not as green as when i bought it) and it has a few brown ends from plucking tips out.

Hi TH, a good start. My only suggestion would be to cut of the little bit of foliage covering the trunk and then sit back and watch it grow.

Went along to a bonsai club meeting last night, was the best thing I've ever done......good people full of great info and cheap stock trees too. Looking forward to creating some nice trees in the workshops they have... ...highly recommend anyone who considers themselves a beginner to go along to a meeting, well worth it

Hi Treehugger , i like the new look that's for sure . Most wouldn't think twice about the new style direction you have taken , well done mate .In every pot plant there is a Bonsai to be had .

The foliage covering the lowest part or the lowest bit of foliage
