Finally got this one off the tree today.
It was July last year when the layer was done. I had forgotten all about it untill late August early September 011 .
aug116feb12 11.jpg Looks to be a bit dry but with many roots attached. aug11s42000151.jpg

Gave it a few spritz's of seasol water & wrapped it back up. Some time in Febuary i gave it a trim back.Sorry didnt take photos of that.
Then today i chop it off, as it seemed not much root growth had happened since Febuary.

Couldnt wait to see what was amongst the spag so soaked it off. Bit of a dissapointment as only one main root had grown. But healthy enough with many feeders attached.
Before the soak.

a 7 mm root. Thought before i pot this up i should try to encourage somemore roots around.Hope i made the right choice. After hearing about the toothpick method i decided to applied it here. or at least have a go any way.

Made some holes on the cambian all around the trunk, dipped 1/2 a tooth pick in clonex and pluged the holes before potting up.

Anchored it down to pot up ,then i sat it in a tub of seasol for 1/2 the day in the shade .
Now it sits under a big old tree awaiting my next move.

Keen to see if the tooth pick method works out for you.

I think it will happen for you Petra. A good sized tree to boot. Keep us tuned in.

Tooth pics or not I think more roots will come in time. It will help if you rotate the tree often as the sun will encourage roots where it shines.

Love the flare.

Nice success story and a tree with great potential.
Thanks for the well illustrated sequence of events.

I agree with Bretts. Toothpicks is probably a waste of time. there is already plenty of callus at the base ready to produce roots. The tree just needs energy, time and incentive to produce roots from the callus. Sunlight and feed will provide the energy, removal from parent will provide the incentive, just allow time.
