Hi all,

Unsure again of the species here so I am not going to name it but I thought I might document the work on it this far.

I bought this back in 2010 in a 6 inch pot with its roots growing into the ground.

I have since attaempted to repot ( about spring 2010) and mucked around with its style for the last few years. It has a bad case of very long branches so In its latest styling I have tried to compress the branches to bring them closer to the trunkline. This has also given the branches an aged effect I think with the ups and downs.

Any how its open to critique or comment without any reservations. My skin is fairly thick and this is a learner tree for me ( one of the first pines I owned) so I know it has plenty of faults.

Hi sqizzy,

I can see this becoming a great bonsai. I already like the shape and what you have done to begin ramification. I think you are at the stage where you can begin training the roots into a pad for placement into a bonsai pot. It will be good to see the nebari.

Anyhoo good luck with this one; it's promising.

With the needles cut

I agree this could be a nice little pine but the tree is weak. The first thing should be to stregthen the tree. In the future you may need to reduce the amount of branches.
Needle cutting or plucking is done to open the tree to sunlight and or balance the trees strength (push the strength where you want it) Cutting all the needles uniformaly like this on this tree I see no benifit. All I see is that it may weaken the tree more.
At the moment I don't think I would have cut any needles but if I was to cut the needles I would have only trimmed the strongset branches.

Pine takes bending well and if the tree was in a healthier state I would be looking for more compression movement in the branches.

From here I would be extra carefull not to over or under water and increase the fertiliser as the tree regains vigor.

Have been slowly bend and cutting this one into a style over the last few years and am getting a bit closer to what I need as I go. I haven't updated for a fair length of tome so though I might post a pic.

I think it could soon go into a pot and I feel after this years spring and summer growth it will begin to take a nice shape.
