Hi All,
And here is the first Ficus Obliqua.

)
This one is the biggest of the lot but it is going well with all the DL its getting
It has put out some nice ariel roots which is a good sign.

My concern with this one is that there isnt very much taper in the bottom section. How would i go about fixing this?
Would anyone have and suggestions / comments?
Cheers
Adan

This one IS Qld small-leaf-fig Ficus obliqua. If you bind the aerial roots close to the trunk (wait until they mature and feel a bit leathery first) and then let the top grow like mad they will thicken and fuse to the trunk.
cheers

Like Ash says, Use the Aerial roots to bind to the trunk to provide thickness sooner.
With the Growth you will get in FNQ, it will not take long. If you wanted you could chop above 1 of those branches and use one of them as the new leader too.

Thanks for the advise guys!
What is the best way to bind the ariel roots to the trunk? I just dont want to damage them or anything.

Grafting Tape would be my choice.

Hate to say it, that is a ridiculous amount of growth!
can I send you some of my trees for a sabbattical!
You can unbind the original aerial roots and then rebind with the new one as well. Give a chance to see how they are going.

I had a go with this one, and had a look at the roots as suggested. All of the big ones have started to fuse, but a few of the small ones just died off, but it was looking pretty good
New roots got wrapped up as well, and i chopped the top off.

Not sure what im doing with this one exactly, but will see what options the new growth produces.
