Hi All, here is a group of JBP'S on a grante slab that I put together in 1989 I think, with a japanese Master, when I was a member at the Waverley Gardens Bonsai Club,
It's been on this slab since then & has never had the soil changed, just watered & a little feed everynow & then there were 5 tree's but 1 died, as I had lost interest in bonsai for about 12 year's, but the bug is back, the tree's I bought of Dot koreshoff, in 1988 when I dropped in on the way back of Queensland, The slab I picked up from the sid e of the Hume Highway in NSW, on that same trip. All comments wellcome,

You have a nice bonsai there. Don't worry too much about the principal of having an odd number of trees in your planting; it looks quite good and natural.

I think it is time to prune wire and replant, the type of material you cannot buy.
For all of its faults.....I cannot stop looking at it.
Given a couple of years good maintenance it could be very special indeed.

I agree with Gerard, re-wire and root prune (in spring) Maybe loose the small tree but I would't try to force it into a pre determined shape. Leave it natural. Love the stone!

you finally revealed yourself. I think you need to work on that very neglected group.

That looks great, im glad you have the bug again your years in the hobby will be a great contribution to the site, love the slab.

I think adding a tree when you get around to refining the group with wire and a prune will help balance it out. From what I have read even is generally avoided as it looks to man made and for the lack of a better word, even One thing I have read in a number of publications by various bonsai masters is you can get away with even numbers if they are placed correctly, however, the Japanese NEVER use four trees as the symbol for the number four is apparently very similar to the symbol for death.

BTW seems 1988 was the year of the molester moustache (no offence, my Dad still tries to pull it off and hes 65 so its even creepier )

Even with my very brief bonsai history behind me I can see this group looking really nice in a few years hacker... What are your plans? You didn't mention you had any. Love the slab!

Also, do my eyes deceive me or are there an even number (4) of trees there in the first photos? What happened to that little fifth guy? Was he too scared of all the facial hair?

That Mo should be walking the fine leg boundary in front of the old Bay 13 at the MCG

The image from 3 years later is a good clue to where the design was heading originally, perhaps a similar feel could be revisited and refined all these years later.
