Hi all you Black Pine growers out there, I am new into them and was wondering what is a good fertilizer program for them and what to use,I have read that they are a bit sensitive to fertilizers is this true and can anyone recommend a good book on them preferably for Australian conditions, would appreciate as much info as possible, Thanks

I have 2 and they require no special treatment re fert.
I top the soil with Neutrog pellets, and then liquid once a fortnight , either Charlie carp or Miracle grow.

I reckon Pines are sensitive to a lack of fert if they don't get enough. What Ken says is good. They can handle virtually anything organic. For grow on stock we used to have osmocote in the soil, shovel the dynamic lifter on the surface through Spring/Summer, and liquid feed fortnightly.
The only book I know of for around Oz for Pines is Leong's 'Pines in the Temperate Climate' ( I think that is what he called it)

I use homemade 'cakes' made of:
1 part cottonseed or soy bean meal; and
1 part Blood and Bone or Meat meal (quite hard to find).
A good link for fertiliser:

Leong's Book - definitely worth a read:

Hi reddoggy, well ive been growing some black pine's on a granite slab since 1988 the pine's were 25 years old when I bought them they are still in the same soil & have only been fertilized every now & then but they still going strong & look great but might get around to changing it one day,

Scott, you should be able to buy meat meal from most ag. supply shops. It is often used as a supp. in chook food. Some pet food places sell it too - Petbarn does.
