Hello All,

I collected this Leptospermum in October 2011. I have started to carve it out to chase out a number of borers. I would like some opinions on whether or not you feel i am going in the right direction. I know so much of our art is personal, but I do appreciate others opinions, critical or not. Is placing one trunk infront of the others a problem. All three trunks are joined at the bottom. I might have to seperate one to get the best positions.
I would really like some opinions on this clump as I am a little lost.

Great group, Steve. Nice find. Good to see how it has taken to the transplant.

Re the taper of the middle tree. It doesn't worry me. It has some taper, just not the same as the others, but then that gives it something of its own character rather than a cuttout copy. It has a degree of tight movement along its length, but then with the huge bite out of one side, you'd be a bit up tight too I expect! With the extensive carving, its story could expect to be rather different from the other two trees, so different character to the trunk is very appropriate.

Re the spacing: the three trees are not equally spaced, which can be a bit dull, if not compensated for. These three are definitely wanting to tell an interesting story. The spacing is OK for me. I'd be cautious about trying to over engineer the 'perfect' positioning. Let the trees talk and you just add the make-up to this trio! the 'hurt' one is close to one and distant from the other. All sorts of images come to mind about what is going on, and that is good. Ticking the boxes on spacing isn't going to improve on the tension already there.

I like the 180 degree view better. I know it doesn't show the carving as much but the trees have better tapr and it looks more pleasing to the eye If the 3 trunks are joined together I would leave them as is - as Roger mentioned they don't look contrived where they are,which could happen if you try and adjust them. I like it

Thanks Roger and Tony, I really do appreciate the feedback. I feel youv'e storted a little story for me Roger and I like it. I will lift the tree a little higher in the pot to expose more of the base. It has also grown a little more since these pics were taken. I will re-post pics soon.
