Pinus parviflora glauca

Hi all,
This is a new tree to me so I thought I might ask for some opinions on what some of the experts might do with this pine as far as cutting and bending. I dont have a great deal of room in the garden for planting out so it is not an option.
What are your thoughts?

hi Sqizz,
Have a look at this thread and it might give you a few ideas about these trees in general before specifically looking at your tree..

Just an update on this pine,
I am going slow and steady with this one. Bit of prunning and shaping.
What do you think

Thats coming along Sqizz. I do not think you will need the lowest branch in the future but it is thickening the trunk so it serves a purpose at the moment.

Ok but wont that mess up the sequence of left, back, right. Can I start a tree off with a back branch with this design?

The other issue I am having is the thickening at the point of the back branch from the wire cutting in before. Can this be rectified somehow in the future?

Thats a fairly standard procedure Sqizz but we need to look outside the square to produce something that is not run of the mill. The tree has a lot of growing to do yet and the bulge will grow out.

Work with what you have Squizz, you can start the first branch where the tree dictates you start it,. 1 2 3 branch placements are still only guidlines.

Hi Squizz,
For me, it looks really good in the last picture. With times, the foliage pads will fill out and I reckon it would even better.
Please keep us posted.
Regards.

So I have potted this guy into a flat pot and a more free draining mix but I thought I would post a pic to show more so the amount of trunk that was hidden. This may now mean the first branch makes more sense with its position relative to the ground.
Cheers

Hello again sqizzy.
Pinus parviflora.
Sydney.
Pruning.
May.
Repot.
Careful.
I know some Melbournians that are terrified by 5 Needle Pines, whether it's on it's own roots or a cultivar grafted on P.thunbergii.
Cheers,
Mojo

No pruning.

Just an updated photo to show the repot seems to have had no impact on the tree yet. It is starting to push this years candles so I think thats a good sign.

Mojo did you know what time of the year was best to pot for my future reference.
