Hi there crazy kids!! I was wondering if anyone had any preference for soill mixes for olives??? I know they are pretty tough and would probably even survive in concrete but does anyone have any magic formulae they would like to share to maximise their performance whilst in a bonsai pot??

Many Thanks

John

Hi John,

In my experience keep it free draining and course. They don't like to stay too wet and will develop root rot if they do. I'd go for 50% course river sand, 40% well rotted compost, and 10% crushed kelp. I normally throw in a bit of slow release fert as well. The more sandy my olive mix, the better I find they do.

Cheers
