Anyone ever worked with native citrus? Have seen a few native species, ranging from out in the more arid parts of qld to the coastal species and wondered if they may be suitable for bonsai?

I grew two Microcitrus australasica for several years as shohin / chuhin bonsai. Both dropped stone dead in a dry heat spell just about three weeks before the rains started. Pruned well, wired reasonably well although hard and very thorny. They may be better suited to somewhere cooler as this is not the first time I have lost them in a single day. There are a few more tropical species you can try - M. garrawayae may be worth a having a crack at.
