Good job Leigh,

Keeping it lean and sparse is what I have seen in person and books with this style of Penjing.

At the collection we tend to fertilise in the Japanese/Western manner whereas is China the soil and fertiliser regimes are very different and meager.

I really like that tree, Leigh, is it a Chinese Elm?

I was at the Bonsai Society of Qld meet on Saturday and saw a cascade styled Chinese Elm there, in this style...was impressive in real life! The owner spent the meeting trimming it back to even less that you've done on yours!

For me this is one of the Great Trees - I go and look at it every time I volunteer at the NBPCA and quietly curse my own lack of imagination.

Hi all,

I defoliated this one last night as Elms don't loose all their leaves here in Sydney.
Thought it would be time to update this thread and I hope the others who own Mr. Lin trees will also post updates.

Blimey, I just read this whole thread to relax at the end of the day - now I need a sleep. That was quite debate! Leigh, I appreciated your clarification of Penjing back in July 2017.

I also appreciate that many in this forum have been quite diplomatic to some of the crud trees that I post. I think that means I don’t have a lot worth debating at the moment, just best to ignore it. Phew! :-)

Steven: on the most recent tree - I find it instructive that have moved the crown back over that first bend. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Bonsai teaches me patience.
