Cut off all the boring bits is my mantra these days.... thanks to a number of the members here, and workshops I've attended...

It often means going back a long way, but hopefully I'll have some more interesting trees because of it.

Ha! I have to search hard to find some exciting bits to keep on many of my pre-bonsai! ‘Going back a long way’ on my sticks may mean stripping nearly all branches and starting again or ....get better stock - that has a few exciting bits - in the first place.

Bonsai teaches me patience.

That's why you wire them when they're young, Mark. You add the drama. :)

I just watched the Victorian Native Bonsai Club presentation done by treeman in March. He does a great job of adding drama to his trees. Definitely worth joining the club just to be able to view the videos, even if you can't get to the meetings.

Getting back to bonsai if we all followed someone's rules like being natural ,classical ,traditional or whatever rules that people want to restrict themselves too we would be bored silly . I have respect for all the above and I will listen to ideas but I will always follow my own path . I'll give it a rest now .
In my opinion this is the greatest post ever written on this forum.

You are changing your position now. We are not talking about belief in diversity. We are talking about your comment of ''the more the better'' and that dominance is bad.
But it's ok I can see this going to be unfruitful. No need to reply. I just ask you to think deeply about the implications of what you believe and not just swallow what you hear in popular media without doing that first.
