If it isn't too late to buy into the thread, I'd like to side with Brettles and Paul in that the overall image (in leaf) doesn't work that well. As has been mentioned here already, the base and carving are awesome, and it is obviously very healthy and vigorous. Herein lies the problem: the sparse, aged and harrowed base deserves better than a JBP style 'helmet' of foliage. Also - if I might be so bold - the pot looks too tight. I'm sure it looks much different (better?) in Winter.

I've spent a lot of dollars at Mr Hanh's nursery, and I know that he knows his stuff. I understand that this is a work in progress, as is everything I have ever posted online.

A dead bonsai is a finished bonsai I see some life in this yet

One thing I have considerd but not mentioned yet is I think te lime sulfurd wood is not in place

I think it is a pity when free discussion about trees is frowned upon

This is quite an intriguing thread as the original post seemed to saying that this was a wonderful example of a plum tree as Bonsai. While I agree it certainly looks like it an old tree, and it seems extremely healthy and vigorous, which are all good things, it really seems to be more of an example of a plum in progress. I think the problem is just that this wasn't clarified in the original post.

This plum will be incredible when it's finished, with such a marvelous base to work from, and with such good growth going on to get everything else in proportion ready to be properly styled to match the base.

This will be one to watch for.

Also, I would be very keen to see it's winter profile when all the leaves have fallen

i agree with you totally paul, but that is his taste and still makes an awesome tree. or just maybe he has plans for it in the future.

So it seems it is possible that the owner just like the tree like this which of course is fine if that is what he likes. But you seem unsure? I am actually quite lost as to where you are on this anymore Antonio.
The tree was posted but we are only allowed to say nice things about it? Especially if you are a newb! You agree with the comments that weren't favourable but you still think we should not say them? Especially if you are a newb!!
