5 years later and I still love these. Look at this one. I want it. Not for that price though, but one can dream.

Not a usual colour for me to like and I struggle to find a tree that would go in something that shallow, but looooooooook at it.

I'm having 30 raku pots made ATM. Wood fired kiln. 500 yr old japanese technique. THEY are something to behold!
When they are ready ill post some pics

Still waiting for those pics or are the yr 11 to busy
Josh.

Does the 500 yr old Japenese technique mean we've only got 494 years left in waiting to see those pics?

Choked on my Scotch and Dry when I read this. Too funny.
Sometimes we’re lucky and might pick up a bargain here or there but in life - you generally get what you pay for. Further, the work of true artisans in any field is hard to come by and usually and rightfully, demands a premium.

The asking price on Beano's recent eye candy obviously indicative of the pot’s history - maker & location.
This reminds me of a slab pot I bought from Bonsai World [NSW Central Coast] a few weeks back. What initially attracted me to it was its large size – measuring 730cm in length x 450mm wide - Yep BIG!
It was only cement in construction, looked extremely well used - but really well made, had some patina (as far as cement goes!) & I thought I could use it for a C.Elm forest I have.
It cost me $120 and I was happy to pay that – mainly for the size factor.
After I made the sale, I enquired if Ashley [Bonsai World owner], knew where it had came from. He then advised that it came into his nursery with a collection of Koreshoff bonsai, that are now being taken care for by himself & his team. Made by Vito Koreshoff in the 70’s - It once held a wisteria, that since outgrew the slab.
For me, the historical value immediately outweighed the monetary & I was even more happier to claim this early Aussie bonsai gem for my own collection.

Great looking slab there CKAR! And some wonderful history to boot!
I have a couple of Japanese pots, my favourite being an unglazed Terahata Mazan square about 30 years or so old used at Kobayashi’s nursery with an Azalea (I have the photo of the pot in Japan with the Azalea in it).. Sure it’s not amazing in the grand scheme of things, but it has some nice patina coming on it now and I have a Shohin Trident Maple Root Over Rock that I hope will suit it.
