Matt,

Yes, working on both those trees would have been me....without doubt
You should have said hello.
Lingnan, although known to implement the 'whatever works approach'

You wanted to know about this statement, well its very simple;

Most westerners or bonsai enthusiasts, refer to Lingnan as the "Clip and grow method" not using any other method of training except clip and grow.

The is completely - False

The whole point on Penjing is to have no barriers, lets of the least a physical one. Yes, Clip and grow is a major technique implemented, but only one of many.

So what I meant by these words, is to be like water, in your mind, in your actions, then finally in your physical.

Be one with your emotions as the body will always follow the mind.

Yes, 'Comfrey' can be used, this has been used for centuries for bone brakes , ulcers etc...Your on the right path, Its a stress reliever and this will transcend into the tree as well. As well as many other remedies are used.

As said in an earlier passage - Do what nature intended not what man intended.

What nature Creates , Man separates. - Kongzi

So all is found in Nature. Your job is to be a student of the Earth, to seek. And have your seeking flow like water.

Take care,

I posted my lengthy response to only shed light on questions I saw on ' Why is it is hard to find technical information on this subject?'

Anyone who does in fact know me, will verify, I am always more than happy to speak and teach anyone topics on Penjing or Chinese teachings. Admittedly , tonight I was going to assist in your queries in higher detail .

But, politeness & I see some retrain seems to have by passed this topic completely, naturally under these circumstances I have no further urging to do so.

Apologies Matt I did not see your earlier posting until today. So I would have written something to your response.
Hey Philippe,

In the thread running up to my posting, I saw numerous requests for info on technique and only one asking why there was so little info. I understand that you may have missed some of these requests in reading the forum, and with that being the case, I understand your response and apologise if I have caused you any offence. All I ask is that you read the thread from beginning to end and see my perspective as well. I am sure in turn you may then understand that at the time of my posting I thought you were being purposefully evasive, and that you may appreciate the frustration shown by myself and others.

Needless to say. I am all for clearing up misunderstandings and leaving them behind as water under the bridge, so thanks for posting the info you have so far on technique. I am sure many will find it useful, and hope that it is but a start to a happy future of teaching through this medium.

Cheers,

Andrew

'Taffy' (Since you choose not to allow me to address you peronaly)
Philippe, I have absolutely no idea what you mean by that. I sure don't have you on my 'Ignore' list - in fact I don't have anyone on my Ignore list. There again, I don't need to. If someone wishes to reply to something I've posted on the forum or a particular subject then they have the right of reply on that particular issue on the forum or subject - as you have just done. It doesn't necessarily need to be done via private pms. The questions I put to you were on an open forum so it is only right and fair that any replies should also be on that same open forum.

Yes, it does say 'Promote and discuss your bonsai club or school here', but that doesn't mean in every single reply or topic you post.
Also, it does not say not to engage in the various discussions that are posted. To the contrary, that to me is the essence of the website - discuss, share, offer and accept advice.

As you have now engaged a bit in the discussion on the use of Palm fibre, I will not take you to task over the issue again.

Phillipe,

One day you came out of the undergrowth along the wall, a silent passing in the shadow of the great maple..
my spot of repose in that chaotic world...

I spent many hours looking up into its boughs in wonder, to bring such a great tree so far & so successfully is a credit to yourself & the rest of the team involved.

Perhaps one day we shall again meet in its shadow.

Matt

Ps Watching you work my frangipani.....to break the flow was unthinkable, even tho I watched for most of an hour, you never wavered.

Xie Xie,
Well done Matt!

To all,
Thank you to every one wo participated in these discussions, but i did not mean for it to get out of hand at times, so i say sorry to Phillippe who wore the brunt of it  . I just mearly asked for information on this subject.
Phil, as i'm sure you are now well aware there is a large group of people on this site that are interested in what you know, you will be a big asset to this site if you choose to stay, thank you for your poetic explanations/interpretations, very informative, but i still can not beleive how little there is on the net.
Phil you have some very beautifull trees and i hope to visit some time soon to have a better look. :worship:

Now, how about to the mods of this great site, how about a dedicated space for Penjing yes/no? what do you think?

Sorry i'm no good at poetry so i'll just say ........Thanks........

Mick

There is alot to be learned before we can pull a tree from the ground, put it in a pot and call it bonsai. :)
