my new swampy

Does anyone know if there is a variety of Swampie that's evergreen? Mine hasn't changed colour or lost any leaves this year. Come to think of it, I think it was purchased from The Imagination Tree so maybe Chris'll know.

Taxodium Mucronatum(or Distichum var Mexicanum)in my photos above is classed as "semi-evergreen". It loses the last of its leaves at the end of winter as the spring growth comes on.It can have old and new on it at the same time.

The colder and the windier the spot the quicker it colours up and loses its leaves.

awsome cheers man, at my local bonsai nursery some of his are bald and some are so green and full of shoots. weird tree's
when the limbs become thick are they hard to wire like quince or fairly easy to bend like ficus? i havn't wired mine yet.

On the other hand,if you really want to bend a heavy branch and not start with a new shoot you can bend and almost never break a swampy branch!

You can easilly dislocate the branch and almost tear it half way through where the branch leaves the trunk to get it into an extreme angle! It will open up and then it will fill up with callous during the growing season and lock it into place by the end of the season.

I only wired and repotted it last week, although it is budding already.

New foliage will not cover it till about late september/early october down here.

I rpobably have some pics of my second biggest one somewhere, not recent, but it might show it's growth if I take one this weekend. It looks a little sad atm, shock from a amssive repot, and then I guess the sudden weather snap didn't help, but it'll be right!! I'll take some pics of the others too
One I'm thinking about doing a first styling on tomorrow, so I'll probably take pics then. It will be a small, upright tree. Actually looking forward to having a formal tree in the collection
I have a pot for it, but probably won't put it in tomorrow, I need to do some work to the pot to get it looking tops

i went and saw one of my mates swampys today its an awsome formal upright with that nice flared out base doesn't get much better lol

i want to keep it it's current heigh and let it fatten it up heaps.
then plant it into a group setting with 4 or so smaller informal upright swampys
what do u think mate?

does anyone know if they take well as cuttings?
