Hi Craig,

I fertilize with osmocote in the mix when i repot. I top dress a year later again with osmocote. I fertilize every two weeks with Nitrosol/Powerfeed or similar strength liquid fertilizer.(10 - 12 % Nirogen)

Defoliation and bending down of tips and nipping back can stimulate latent buds.

I will be repotting bare root this Saturday this tree.

Hi Grant, thanks for the info, i just repotted my 2 tree ash into a fairly large pot , hopefully that encorages it to put out more shoots than it has been.I will also pay more attention to fertilizing this tree as sometimes i get a little.. Cheers Craig

I will be bare root repotting this tree tomorrow as well.

I have a choice of two pots; a beige one deep and square, a green one shallower and oval.

I shall show the two choices in the morning.

Green and shallowish.JPG
Neither is perfect so I may compromise on one till Pat K can make a perfect pot for it.

I like the chunkiness and height of the cream one but its a bit square.

Hi Grant, i like the green oval pot but maybe the green would be too conflicking with the green foliage of the Ash. The cream would probably suit and its deeper so maybe this one for now,,,,,,thanks for keeping us posted,,,craig

I vote for the green one but maybe potted a little more over to the right than the picture?

Had to go with the shallow green pot. It didn't stand a chance of getting into the cream pot no matter how many roots I ground off.

But I had forgotten how shallow I had cut the toot sytem last time and it is very shallow.

Shallow green pot for me - until you get PK to make something a little smaller.

I will defoliate it a number of times this year and wire 2 or 3 times to really get the ramification and placement I want.

Hi all,

after severe root prune the tree is now budding freely and doing well. Should be on show at the Canberra Bonsai Show on the 25th and 26th September.
