i know what ya saying mate, i am on work cover at the moment and had the same problem, unfortunaly some internet shops can be like that i would recommend trying to call them if possible. if it was an ebay shop you can get there details PM me if you need to know how, hopefully they work out for you.

the way i fixed mine is sort of hard with out a pictorial to do it with but basically i got the twist out the best i could then spent a lot of time with a sharpening stone to get them to close properly, be carful twisting if you go the way of fixing as they are hardened and will chip and crack easy.

i will get the repair thread up and running asap to help as i think this is a common problem that is not often addressed!

if its stone lantern you could be in trouble their books are sent out great but their tool division dont have a clue
