here is this tree starting to leaf out, and its powering on, i was gonna take a pic yeesterday but thought i could wait a bit longer, got up this morning and looked at it again and thought that it would be a good idea to show a half way sort of leaf out!

and with the pot being round with only three feet, two feet decide the front of the pot, something i learnt of pup, showing two feet gives the feel of more balance where one foot would give it an unsteady feeling
i cant wait for this tree to fill out completely, and hopefully get some airial roots happening i will be trying a few things but have a fair idea of how to do it

cheers mate! the back of the tree is actually looking better than the front at the moment, i think it will change once it fills out some more though

cheers mate i like the pot too, i reckon the glaze is awesome on it, and the rivets set it off nicely, you gotta really search for quality pots this one cost me $45 from northside bonsai nursery here in queensland.
there are a few potters on the site that might be able to help you get something similar or make to what you want for very reasonable prices, and they would be able to ship that to you over there in hawaii!

i would be looking online for pottery (not Ebay) try google, pottery sales online and you could find exactly what your after and not have to leave the comfort of your own house

another update, 2 days after you can see how much these guys put on in terms of foliage and growth, it is going really well, i am hoping in another few weeks some of the branchlets will have hardened off, im not sure which is the exact fert to give the tree to help this (P? or K?) but i am hoping it happens soon. then i can concentrate on secondaries and increasing the ramification

as you can see it has come along way in just one month, from being leafless to being in nearly full leaf, gotta be happy with that!

i havent decided on having a front yet, one veiw is slightly better than the other but the pot the way it is with three legs sort of dictates this for now until it gets a repot, which being up here in QLD will only be about 4-6 months away

will do bro the way these things grow that might not take to long, like i said it could be only 4 months or so before that is needed, my other ficus need to be repotted so frequently generally i leave them a little root bound as it would be to much hassle to repot all the time!

i will and do mate, i got to meet him a few weeks back and he is a great bloke too, welcomed me into his home, introduced his family who are great, easy going people, and his trees are amazing, i was in awe of the quality, i agree 100% that he is one of the best stylists in the country, and rod is also one of the hidden artists

another little update, this thing is just going nuts, it is very healthy, the leaf size is actually larger than i expected as it had fairly small leaves when i got it, but thats ok as defoliation is going to be done which will reduce the leaf size.
as you can see that the back could be the front and vice versa, but i think the first pic i have stated as the prefered front has better balance.
i am tempted to defoliate again already but i think for the health of the tree i should hold of for a few more weeks unless someone can tell me why it shouldnt matter?

a defoliation and rewire is necessary but the shoots that got wired from the last defoliation havent hardened off yet, so this is why i think i should wait a bit?

once ramification is acheived the leaf size will reduce quite well, to half the size it is now if not a bit smaller. i think it put on bigger leaves from this repot because of the fert and also the stress it went through, it went through quite a bit to begin with, bare root, some root pruning, defoliation, wire, a second repot from organic potting medium to a mix of diatomite and organic.

all in all pretty happy so far
