This is probably get away with it if you really want to or have to repot. But after a successful su,,er repot the tree goes really well. I usually start repotting around first week in Feb if no temps over 30 are predicted for the following week. Or wait till it is so then start. It’s really up to you and a choice; not compulsory.

One of my colleagues here in Ballarat repotted a C. deodara in February last year. It almost died and has still not recovered. There are more than one possible explanations for the setback, the timing of repotting being one. Unless I need to do an emergency repot, I will always repot my cedars in August.

I wouldn’t say it’s gone hopefully just knocked back. Keep it in the shade spray the leaves with water and fingers crossed.

Yeah that's what I've been doing but it my experience when the whole tree's colour dulls, it's all over.

Looks terrible doesn't it? But to my surprise, new growth all over!

Great to see the new buds there!

Great result! They can be tougher than people think.

Maybe not a great result. A lucky result though and I’m pleased for you that the tree pulled through. Bet there were some gritted teeth moments and prayers to the bonsai gods.

It's a great result because it successfully survived the repot.

Cedars sometimes drop needles and start again even when repotted in spring.
I'd also say this is a good result both for this tree and the trial of summer repotting.

Dunno if this is really any kind of recommendation for summer root work given the stress the tree clearly went through from the recent pics and the fact the work done was light/not terribly invasive by admission.
Mmm… I guess at least now you can decide whether to do that again in coming years, at least you get that option I suppose! Onward and upward.
