Some beautiful looking trees there guys. Great effort.

Next year I'll be able to make it....too much going on at the moment.

I did attend and I was really impressed by the Scots pine, when you had a look underneath it had terrific ramification. Very traditional and very good.
I also liked a trident maple, again traditional but a good presentation. Gee I hope I'm not turning to the dark side - The Traditionalists!
I thought the exhibition was of very good standard and may be fast becoming the best exhibition in Australia?
A couple of things that took my eye:-
* Japanese blood grass was an accent of choice
* the Japanese black pines (except one) had long needles so that was disappointing
* the number and quality of the Australian native trees has improved dramatically
* everyone appeared to be happy just to be at a bonsai event.

This casuarina defungens was the tree that i voted for



It had a wonderful trunk line with great movement and fantastic texture
Now looking back at the photos i do find the top of the tree/ foliage a little too well structured for a native tree with such a great trunk line
Just a little too traditional with respect to the branch placement, stepped if you will
Maybe the top could have been a little more rugged
A good portion of the trees in the exhibition are on the large size which is hard to adjudge from the photos
This cassy is probably 1/2 a meter tall and so much larger than the defungens i own that i will never in my life time gain the texture that this tree has

They are very, very quick to grow. It doesn't take long to have a thick trunk with this species.
Together with their fairly short needles, they make wonderful specimens. I agree with your comments too.

The presence of lichen & moss certainly enhanced that trunk texture. The age was apparent - no tricks.
