Yes agreed! The wood itself is protected by multiple layers of marine grade boat varnish with drainage and wire holes - so it should not wick or lose moisture in and of itself but … but there’s just not enough of a container to … well….contain. Still nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Don’t know. I like the concept. Nothing ventured nothing gained

I really like the look/style of the oak slab. Perhaps you might think about commissioning a ceramic pot with the dimensions and depth that you need for the tree. To me the blue pot does nothing to enhance the style of your tree.
Although it’s a nice pot, it’s just not suitable :imo:

Well … just to confuse everyone a little more … I too really liked the look of the wine barrel but it was simply not sustainable and I did not want to stress or worse - lose the tree.

So… I also really liked the rocks and setting on the barrel - and - I had this tray on hand and excuse the rough photos but this looks a treat too. And it’s a whole lot more manageable.

Importantly, my wife loves it.

I really liked the blue pot too. Albeit - this tells a more convincing story for me - and as people know by now - I swing between Bonsai and Penjing pretty liberally.

All three are fair choices … alas, this will be it’s home for the next couple of years now.

As I look at it from my position inside - as I type this post - it’s actually a beautifully balanced planting - albeit the photos do not do it justice.

I’ll let the pictures continue to divide opinion - it’s such a subjective sport - this thing Bonsai - and there lay part of its charm.

Lovely forest R3. Image

On this olive …. it’s a great shame that my phone camera won’t do it justice … the morning light - the sun coming up from the right but actually reflected via a window on the left - is a striking effect on this olive this morning.

It gets lost in the background (without being able to set the aperture on my phone) but you still might be able to get a sense.

Really lovely as a sip my morning coffee. Image
