It's coming along. I'm hoping that in the next two years or so the design will fill out into a nice little tree.

This is a lovely little tree - and great photos to help highlight that. So far I haven't had anything to do with pines but it's threads like this that make me think I need to give them a crack.

Greg, Ryceman's Pine Project and some of his pines are part of the reason I am trying to grow them. In truth, I am not a fan of the same, sameness of some pines but Ryan's interesting little trees, first class organisation and recording of process and his passion for growing the seedlings is what is inspiring me. I have to say though ... that .... as good as this tree is becoming - it is missing something a feline accent .... c'mon mate where's the cat in these photos!?

As for my bonsai buddy, he makes his appearances on his terms, and despite the fact this is one of my favourites, he sees things differently. If it was the JRP “Aurea” he would’ve been out and about for sure. He loves that tree, but I don’t have a repot on the cards for it so you might need to wait a little longer. He has good taste though, that tree is going to fill in nicely over the next few years!

Pines are plenty of fun greg27 and rewarding when you get it right... highly recommended, so don’t be shy (now is a great time to get one )

Update after a decandling session with this tree today.
A sentimental favourite in many ways, it’s my OG JBP...

A nice tree Ryceman. I like the dramatic movement.
Removing the little branch on the lower right (some day) will bring it out even more? .....

Yeah, I can see that working... maybe in a few years.
I'd like to see the bark on the trunk develop a bit more beforehand to enhance the interest if the branch does go, I feel like there's not much there but if the bark had more texture it would be nice to have it more exposed.
Nothing is for forever so we'll see what happens, thanks for the input.

Great tree Ryceman, and the needles are coming along nicely, both in length and consistency across the tree. I like the pot too. Simple and clean.

Thanks for the kind words. Happy with progress, and as for the pot... I think it is pretty good, so much so that alternatives keep getting overlooked - I never seem to find one I like better. Still like the idea of a more rounded rectangle, so still looking. There’s time!

whatever you are doing with your JBP, you're doing it right Ryceman. yours are the healthiest JBP i have seen so far. no offense to others but that's just my opinion. i have older black pines but not as healthy as yours.

One more pine that had some work done. This is the 4th decandling season this one has been through, and I am really happy in the consistency I am getting in needle length, I'll really be looking to build density in the tree and maintain this length from here-on. I also got pretty much 2 shoots from each decandled site (a few only gave me one), pretty close to a perfect result ... happy with that.

Very nice. I like the before shot nearly as much as the after shot.

I needed to repot this JBP again, so today was the day. I can't seem to go for longer than a year ... the mychorrizal growth is so prolific that it almost creates a "skin" that makes ensuring that water is penetrating incredibly labour intensive. The best way I have found to fix this is to repot and remove the bloom and get it in new mix.
I also had a different pot I wanted to try it in. I'm not sure it is quite right, but it's not bad and right now I think a change is as good as a holiday ... since one of those is nothing more than a pipe dream!! At least I get to look at it in a slightly different way for a while. Besides, based on current form I'll be repotting again next year, so I can change again then ...
