A multi trunk or raft style elm that I really like. I don't really have many of this style and need to get into it. originally a root cutting.Just over shohin height

Are you using an ordinary, non bonsai specific potting mix?

basically I use a cacti mix , sieve the heavy particles and remove some of the fines for non shohin size trees. For pines etc I remove all fines and add 30% zeolite . I have used this mixure for 7 years now in NE vic with no ill health to any of the trees . Some of these trees stay wet for weeks this time of year if we get a wet winter. I believe good air circulation under the pot is a factor. Summer heat here is multiple 40 degrees so I like to keep some moisture in the mix as I work 5 days a weeks and cant be there to water multiple times. I do have a computerised watering system that in summer dumps the bonsai area twice a day .

Nice trees Matthew!

Just moved to the UK and had resigned myself to not being able to own any trees while I was here... but now all I want is a few Seiju or Hokkaido elms. I'm still trying to get over losing my 20 yr old Hokkaido that was annihilated by curl grubs while air layering some branches. :crybye:

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Another trident ROR shohin that I repotted, pruned and forgot to get pics . This tree ramifies well. Less than 3 years on those branches

Thanks yes it has been a tree that really has moved forward quickly. Finding the right pot for it has been difficult as the rock goes deeper than I like so unless I cut it underneath (which I may do at some point ) a shallow tray or oval is out of the question. This pot will do for now
